YUMMMM-plings SO my bOOFiful friend Priscilla and I decided to wander to Elk Grove to try a new restaurant and her friend suggested this place so we had to check it out! I AM A SUCKER FOR MOST KINDS OF DUMPLINGS but modern fusion looking restaurants always throw me off for some reason. THEY'RE JUST SO CLEAN LMAO. Priscilla and I joked around about how you could tell how good a Chinese restaurant is by the bathroom cleanliness LOL. Ironically, the dirtier the bathroom, the better the restaurant. ;) SINCE DUMPLING IS IN THE NAME OF THE RESTAURANT, we just had to give their xiao long bao a try. Xiao long bao is just like a little dumpling pocket filled with a ball of flavored meat and clear broth, making the whole a really satisfying, warm, savory, and umami bite! Master chefs in the kitchen make the dough from scratch and evenly roll each dumpling skin out so the skin is impressively thin but also able to hold all the filling without collapsing. When the xiao long bao came out, the fragrance was kind of sweet and reminded me of the buns you get at dimsum places! The meat filling was savory, mildly flavored with ginger, and was a little soft and rough at the same time (if that makes sense). The broth felt smooth and clean and not overly oily, WHICH IS GREAT TO KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT SWALLOWING PURE FAT! WELL DONE. I enjoyed this the most! :) The whole basket cost $9.50 for 8 dumplings, which is a little more than average price, but the flavor was tastyyyyy and best eaten hot! It also comes with a black vinegar and ginger mix and their house chili garlic oil condiment sauce. I didn't use the vinegar or the ginger (even though they are supposedly palette cleansers), but I tried their house chili garlic oil sauce on the dumpling and it was quite nice paired together!
The napa cabbage (MY FAVORITE) and noodles I feel like would be considered soggy for a lot of people, but I'm a 20 year old grandma that doesn't mind soggy shit so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I believe their noodles are not hand-pulled in house, so that could maybe explain it? The Szechuan noodles cost $6.50.
I feel like they were kind of skimpy with their meat and that their meat was lowkey just ground beef and their house chili sauce mixed in it. It didn't feel like they tried to make it special. In my opinion, it wasn't that special. It just tasted like noodles with bits of ground beef and lots of chili mixed into it. BUT I ENJOYED THE VEGGIES GREAT JOB. The Tan Tan Mian cost $9.50.
Overall, this place was alright. I think if I were to go again, I would definitely get the xiao long bao again and only order like dumpling specific dishes like the vegetarian dumplings or the pan fried meat buns. I wouldn't get any more noodle dishes heh. You can browse the full menu if you click here! :-) This place is also located in a very large and lively plaza with like Target and Pinkberry and lots of other small restaurants and shops. A GREAT PLACE TO WALK AROUND AND CHILL IF YOU EVER GET THE CHANCE. :-)
