The only men I need! The moment I came back from Guatemala, I was reallyyyyy craving some ramen because girl hasn't had it in like a year and I was thirsting after that dairy-free creamy broth!! My brother wanted to try this popular place at Japantown in San Francisco and so, we arrived at 11:30AM, right when it opened (it's small and gets packed fast!). There was already a line when we got there and they had an automated electronic waitlist. We were #28 on the list and it took about an hour for us to get called. We walked around the second floor stores to pass time! When we got called, I sneaked a peak at the waitlist and there were 84 parties in line.... that's crazy! Marufuku doesn't have an extensive menu as their speciality is Hakata ramen, but you can take a look at their full menu here! They only have four ramen items on their menu: hakata tonkotsu, hakata deluxe, chicken paitan, and paitan deluxe. Hakata-style ramen is served as a milky bone broth with thin ramen noodles. The focus of hakata-style ramen is the soup and the richness of the broth. The broth is prepared by boiling pork or chicken bones for almost a day (twenty hours for Marufuku), extracting all the nutrients and deep umami flavors from within the bones. This flavorful broth is then served with thin ramen noodles cooked aldente, which pair together so well! Depending on what you order, you get different toppings, but the basic toppings here were either pork/chicken chasiu, ramen seasoned egg, green onions, kikurage mushrooms (wood ear), and bean sprouts. With the deluxe versions (an extra $4), you get a different flavored pork/chicken piece, corn, and seaweed. I usually get the tonkatsu ramen, so I switched it up and tried the chicken paitan ($13) instead. My brother and cousins got the tonkotsu ramen ($13), so I could sneak a taste of their broth and chasiu hehe. We also ordered a chicken karaage ($6.50) because why not LOL. Our chicken karaage came first and my brother and I were really excited to compare it to the BEST CHICKEN KARAAGE EVER from Las Vegas (read about that here). Yeah, it didn't beat it LOL. It was tasty and meaty though like your typical good 'ol karaage! Just not the BEST. The ramen finally came and we could finally taste the broth that people raved about. My chicken paitan broth was sooo flavorful! It had a deep chicken bone flavor to it and was so creamyyy and savoryyyyy. Really tasty! I tried the tonkotsu AND IT WAS EVEN BETTER. Not only was it savory and umami, but also had a natural sweetness from the pork bones and I personally preferred that over the chicken paitan. The chicken breast chasiu was also unbelievably moist.... I'm not the biggest fan of chicken breast because it can be dryyyyyyy so chicken thighs are the way to go for me LOL. But this one was pretty tasty! MAJOR PROPS MARUFUKU. I liked the pork chasiu but my brother said that Fukumimi's was better so idk.
